The site is located in the Northern part of Timisoara, and it is very well connected to all parts of the city by public transport.
The stepstone for this project was set in 2018 with the construction of VOX Technology Park office building. Since its completion VOX Technology Park triggered a significant urban development of the area between Torontalului Boulevard, Bucovina Street, Aleea Viilor Street and Grigore Alexandrescu Street. With a few exceptions the entire 65 hectares area hosts the development of residential buildings, at different scales and densities.
According to the applicable urban planning regulations, the free space left after the construction of VTP can be occupied in a ratio of 50%. The configuration of the new VOX Plaza building, by using the diagonal as a vector demarcation line between the built and the unbuilt space, transforms the interstitial space between the two buildings from street into an urban square. The funnel-shaped plaza, opening towards Calea Torontalului, defines the spatial, functional and relational context for a public multifunctional space accessible to the entire community.
The configuration of the building complex to a human scale and the presence of natural elements (trees, vegetation, water) enrich and define the character of the square, offering its users a complex sensory experience. The entire ensemble, buildings and plaza, is brought down to a human scale by the lowered cornices on the 1st floor and it is activated by the positioning of public functions on the ground floor. The green terraces of the VTP and VOX Plaza buildings add to the usable area and create new connections and enrich the visual perception within the plaza.
The project enunciates the same principles promoted by the local administration through the master plan “Timisoara North – Urban Development Strategy”. Under the motto “No urban planning without quality public spaces, accessible to all”, the master plan proposes the development of neighborhood micro-centres, activated by various functions, in a relationship of complementarity with the classic center of Timisoara.
The building’s image is unified by the white grid that covers all the facades, on all sides reaching the perimeter, leaving the core of the building with all its internal facades to give identity through the rich color it displays. The grid enables flexibility in the design process and furthermore in the fit out stage.
VOX Plaza is connected to its context through passages, stairs and the urban scale portico on the south facade. The image of the building is diverse and multifaceted with the white grid constantly changing pace and it’s colored core revealing more or less of itself depending on the viewers angle and position.
VOX Plaza is a complex consisting of a vibrant mixed-use building, extremely diverse in terms of function and with a strong visual identity, and a plaza. It is designed to offer the necessary public spaces and functions for the neighboring residential area. The building is structured into four distinct volumes: a GF+1 urban plinth intended for commercial activities and services, a hotel located
towards Calea Torontalului, an office building in the middle, and a residential building towards the residential neighborhood.
Given the position, the mix of functions and the public space it provides, VOX PLAZA will act as the access gate of the upcoming Torontalului West neighborhood and also as its community center.
